
Locomotive Driver and Traction Training
This course aims to empower shunt drivers with the knowledge and proficiency needed to operate safely and effectively in any non Network Rail environment.
Overview
These courses provide comprehensive initial shunt driver training (driver training from the ground up), and also specific traction training. We can deliver these courses at either our training centre or at the clients site.

Delivery
Our training facility is conveniently situated within our mainline connected sidings and depot facility. Here, we provide hands-on instruction and real-world scenarios to ensure practical skill development. However, we also offer the flexibility of conducting bespoke courses directly at the client's site, allowing for customised training experiences that align perfectly with their operational requirements.

The Course
Some integral parts of these courses include:

​Shunting procedures (hand Signals, point setting, fixed signals, communication etc.)

Driving and shunting of locomotives (underpinning principles, wheelslip/slide etc.)

Traction training (loco specifics, preparation, slow speed handling etc.)

Route knowledge (location familiarisation and understanding the SSoW)

Train preparation (wagon/vehicle types, brake continuity testing etc.)

Dealing with emergencies

Entry Requirements
Delegates for Shunt Driver training and certification must hold a current PTS and must meet the medical standards for individuals who are authorised to work on or near the line. Falcon can offer this course as part of a package, inclusive of PTS and Designated Person duties, ensuring all client requirements are covered efficiently.
